Contraindications

Pregnant or Breastfeeding individuals: we cannot do your appointment. We prioritize the safety of you and your baby and although it is generally a safe procedure we do break the skin and want you as healthy as possible. Additionally, the hormones in pregnancy can change the skin and affect the pigment's retention.

Accutane Users: If you are or have been an Accutane or use(d) a similar medication, it is very important that you wait at least 12 months after ending your treatment before getting PMU done. Accutane affects the skin healing and pigment retention.

Retinol and Related Products: You must temporarily discontinue the use of retinol, retinoids, or similar vitamin A derivatives for 1-2 months prior to your appointment, These products affect the skin and can thin the skin leading to problems with pigment retention and scarring. It is important to note that the longer you have been using these products the longer you may need to wait.

Keloid Scars: If you are prone to getting keloid scars, PMU is unfortunately contraindicated for you.

If you have questions about certain medications please reach out to your artist prior to your appointment so we can assess the medication and possible contraindications.

Exfoliants and Skin Treatments: Please avoid getting any type of intense facial or peel for at least two weeks prior. If you use a heavy chemical exfoliant such as alpa hydroxy (AHA) or beta hydroxy acids (BHA) and again retinoids please refrain from use for at least two weeks.

Illness: If you are experiencing a cough, fever, or other signs of illness, please inform your artist immediately so we can reschedule.

Alcohol, Weed, and CBD: Avoid using these products for at least 24 hours prior to your appointment. These products can cause vasodilation (increase blood flow) that can lead to an increase in bleeding during the procedure and excessive scabbing while healing.

Blood thinners: If you are taking medications such as aspirin, ibuprofen, or other medications that cause blood thinning please refrain from using for three days prior to your appointment. If you are on a medication like Lovenox or Warfin or anything like this as prescribed by a physician, you will need clearance from them before making adjustments. We do use numbing cream during our procedures, so please refrain my using ibupforen or such before your appointment. If you need to use a pain relief medication you can take Tylenol.

Makeup: You are more than welcome to wear your makeup to your session. This can be helpful so we can see how you usually style your brows. We are so excited to see you and look forward to make your brows goals a reality.

After Care

Keep your Eyebrows Clean: during the initial phase of healing it is very important you keep your new brows clean as the skin has been opened. Please refrain from touching your brows except when applying the aftercare ointment. This is to reduce the risk of an infection.

How Best to Clean: Once the initial phase of healing has passed, it is best to clean your brows with a gentle non abrasive cleanser. Pat dry with a clean cloth but do not scrub the brows.

Moisturize: Dab on a thin layer of the aftercare ointment to keep the skin hydrated. It is best to not let your skin get very dry as healing happens best under light moisture.

Itchiness: It is very normal for as our skin heals to itch. It is best to refrain from itching your brows during the healing stages. Especially do not pick. Your brows may scab during the healing process and scratching or picking at your scabs and pull the scab and pigment off.

Swimming: It is best during the first two weeks after your appointment to refrain from submerging your eyebrows in water. The skin has been opened and resisting submerging your eyebrows in water is best to prevent potential infection. This can also affect the pigment retention.

Excessive sweating: For the first week it is best to limit activities that cause excessive sweating including intense workouts or saunas. The sweat can jeopardize pigment retention and optimal healing especially in the early healing days.

Your Brow Healing Process

unnamed image

The First 24 Hours: Immediately following your brow session your eyebrows are going to be as dark and prominent as they are going to get. Don't worry though because as they heal they will lighten up. Your brows may leak some lymph during this time. It is best to use a clean tissue or cloth and just pat them occassionally if this happens.

Days 2-7: As your brows heal you may notice some light scabbing happening. There isn't usually too much scabbing that happens but every body responds differently to the procedure. As the skin starts to heal during this phase it creating a new skin underneath that the pigment is embedding itself into. If you scratch or pick your scab you can disrupt this process and actually pull out the pigment that is trying to embed which can lead to patchy healing. It is best to leave your scabs alone and let them naturally fall off.

Days 8-21: During this time you may worry about your brows and how they will turn out. Please be patient as it is normal for your brow color to fluctuate during this time. They may appear very light or even patchy and even during this time. Your skin is healing, it's important to trust the process and wait until that 6-8 week mark to see how they fully healed.

Weeks 6-8: Your new brows should be healed at this point. And you can come in for your touch up session. During this appointment we will make any adjustments and perfect any imperfections. We do this touch up to ensure your brows look their absolute best!
